TDS240 Solar Window Film

Reducing Glare & Heat

Tint Design was consulted by Diadem, for a persistent issue with excessive sunlight coming through the glass panes on the roof of Box Hill Central causing glare within their premises. To mitigate this problem, Diadem consulted with Tint Design for the installation of solar window film on the interior of the glass roof. The selected film, TDS240, offered promises of glare reduction, UV protection, and energy efficiency.

Project Scope:

The objective was clear: reduce glare by installing solar window film after hours. However, the project posed some challenges. Work commenced afterhours at 9 pm, with security present to safeguard visitors and employees. Using a specialised boom lift, the team accessed high areas of 14 meters, while drop sheets were used to protect vendor ceilings from potential damage due to dirty water runoff from the soiled glass. Precise trimming and installation of the film were conducted to ensure seamless coverage and prevent light filtering through gaps.

Several challenges emerged during the project:

  1. Height: For reaching elevated areas, a specialised spider boom lift was used. Operated by a remote for added safety, this lift was lightweight to prevent any risk of falling through the suspended concrete floor. In addition, it is providing access to even the most challenging locations.

  2. Limited Space: The presence of escalators and shops made it challenging to position the boom lift effectively.

  3. Night Work: Working in reduced visibility required precise cleaning to ensure a pristine finish.

  4. Complex Glass Shape: The pyramid-shaped glass roof required careful application to ensure complete coverage without gaps.

  5. Quality Assurance:  With visibility from the rooftop car park, the installation had to meet high standards.

To address these challenges, the team:

  1. Conducted Detailed Planning: Assessing the site and completing a comprehensive plan ensured smooth execution despite many constraints.

  2. Utilised Specialised Equipment: Employing a remote-controlled spider boom lift facilitated safe access to high areas that was light enough that it wouldn’t risk overloading the suspended concrete floor.

  3. Executed Precise Installation: Taking the time and care to apply the film accurately and thoroughly minimised the risk of gaps or blemishes.

  4. Performed Quality Checks: Regular inspections ensured the film met visual standards and performance expectations.

Although there were many challenges to overcome, the team come together and ensured that the quality of the install was met. Overall, installing, TDS240 film achieved the following:

  1. Experienced a significant reduction in glare by 83%

  2. The film effectively blocked harmful UV rays by over 98%

  3. By regulating heat transfer, the film contributed to improved energy efficiency and cost savings.

Through careful planning, precise execution, and rigorous quality control, the team achieved a positive outcome, improving comfort, energy efficiency, and aesthetics for all stakeholders involved.
